Junior Developer - ICT Department

Head Office - Full Time (39 hours)

 

 

The Role

 

A new role has arisen within the ICT department to develop, modify, maintain and test programs and applications to meet Wilkinson’s business needs.

 

Key responsibilities will include:

 

·         Developing applications and programmes, updating relevant documents and implementing system changes where necessary as directed or guided by the development lead.

·         Developing and debugging programs in the appropriate programming language and to the Wilkinson standards

·         Conducting some impact analysis where necessary for more complex changes, and unit test programs to the required Wilkinson standards providing appropriate evidence and updating the test plans against specification.

·         Working with and supporting colleagues to discuss and evaluate their requirements and technical queries.

·         Using this information to develop appropriate processes and code.

·         Helping others understand how programmes and processes work providing appropriate tuition and documentation to support them.

·         Developing and learning new programming skills and techniques to support ongoing expertise development.

·         Supporting 3rd party developers and system integrators.

 

The Person

 

The ideal candidate will have programming experience or an appropriate ICT degree and demonstrate a willingness to learn and understand the major business processes across the retail organisation. A high level of technical competence in the technologies utilised to support the business is required along with effective problem solving techniques.

 

We need someone with knowledge of RPGILE, or RPG free format programming preferable or knowledge of other programming languages such as Java and PHP, EGL plus supporting technologies, such as Web services and SOA. A general knowledge of SQL and its appropriate use for developing and supporting systems is required and an understanding of technical specifications and the use of flowcharts as per the department standards.

 

We need someone with good communication skills, who is a self starter and can work in unsupervised environment. You must be organised able to work accurately to tight deadlines. Some level of business and systems analysis is required and the post holder will be expected to expand their skills into analysis and design as their experience level increases.
